Dust Motes Dancing in the Light… Mean You Should Read These Fall Cleaning Tips!

Hi friends!
Suddenly the leaves are turning and the days are getting shorter, and we are not ready! (Is it really October already?) That lovely autumn light really brings out the dust and cobwebs. Luckily, we are bringing you some how-to’s that will make sure you are prepped (and clean) for hibernation.
The Wardrobe Swap
We know that you know that there probably won’t be many more shorts-weather days left. Start pulling the summer wear out and organize the fall and winter wardrobe. (May we recommend putting the lighter layers at the top of the drawer to ease your way in, just like the season?) It never hurts to give yourself a small vacation clothing bin… so you don’t have to dig through all your stored summer gear if we are allowed to travel again one day! Do your future self a favour and donate what you don’t need, wear, or use.
The Un-washables
You know they are there, but when was the last time you really took a good look at them? We are talking about those very necessary, but not easily laundered items. Thankfully, most of these fabrics now come with washable options, however; if your textiles are not washer-friendly, we can help! Dampen a towel, put everything in the dryer on the air-fluff (cool) setting, and they’ll be fresh in no time. Pro Tip: Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the towel to keep your textiles smelling amazing!
Cozy Up Your Home
If you didn’t see our post on Facebook earlier in September, you may want to take a look at it here. As the temperature goes down, our need for the warm, cozy things in life goes way up. The best ways to create warmth in your home are to take a look at your lighting, your fabrics, and your décor. Oh, and slippers will be your tootsies’ best friend so make sure you have those puppies on hand, or foot, rather. View the full post here.
Scrubby, Scrubby
Step one: Grab a Swiffer duster, a magic eraser, and the vacuum. Step two: Go to town on those hard to reach places. After a hot Calgary summer, we have finally closed the windows and put on close-toed shoes. You would be amazed at the amount of dust and grime that accumulates in sneaky spots around your house!
Here’s a little checklist of our favourite hard-to-reach-spot cleaning tips:
- Dust your TV cords and electronics
- Wash walls and baseboards, especially behind furniture
- Scrub grout between your floor tiles and remove build-up from faucets and shower heads
- Take a cloth and a Q-tip to window tracks and rinse screens
- Lint roll your fabric lamp shades
The Heart of the Home
We don’t know about you, but the cooler weather has us craving hearty soups, stews, and homemade baking. Before you restock the fridge and the pantry with everything you need to make your favourite comfort foods, now is a great time to go through and junk out the old. Check out the expiries on those things that have made it to the far back corner of the fridge, and to take inventory of your pantry items and spices. You’ll be surprised at how many things have been around for a really, really long time… Also, don’t forget to wipe out your shelves and drawers as you do this – two birds with one stone!
Did you know we cover some of these areas during every clean? We can help you start fall fresh, just ask us what we can add to your regular or one-time clean.
We love cleaning so you don’t have to!
~Your friend, Anna
