Keep With This Tradition This Season…

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays! As the days tick down, we hope everyone is safe at home with family, or chosen family this year. We may not be gathering in big groups right now, but can we just say that it’s making us want to really pull out all the stops and come up with some super fancy dishes to make up for it? But first!

It doesn’t matter how old we are, we always put a little (ok, a lot) of extra elbow grease into our cleaning routine when the parents (or guests, but especially parents) are coming! We’re going to suggest that whether or not there will be parents in the house this year, you do the traditional “Parent Clean”. We’ve got some tips that will impress anyone – except maybe the kids and the significant other, but who’s expecting that anyway?

Rearrange – It’s for Your Sanity

Throughout the year, it can be really easy to give things temporary homes. Like that screwdriver in the kitchen, or the spot that you sometimes put your keys that somehow also has 3 pens, some paperclips, stay jewelry, and 80 receipts piling up there. Not to mention the cupboards and drawers that are so disorganized that you question whether you really need whatever you went in there to find. We love to do a holiday re-organization, finding just the right spots for everything to minimize traffic jams, broken décor, and scrambling to find the things you only use once or twice a year.

The Dreaded Oven

As long as it’s not smoking it’s probably clean enough, right? Er… your call? A clean oven not only helps keep your kitchen smelling great while you whip up a holiday feast, it’s also one of those cleaning tasks that really will wow a picky parent. Like, whose child, are you? Plus, we’ll let you in on a little secret. You can ask us to add on an oven clean to your next service! Don’t worry, we won’t tell! 😉

The Hidden Spots

All it takes is one kid to drop a puzzle piece and comment on the tumbleweeds under the couch. That’s it; the gig is up, and everyone knows you haven’t moved the furniture for a good clean lately. That goes for all the other spots you think you’ll do later or that you like to hide the items you’re not sure what to do with. Someone will invariably find them. So, do yourself a favour; do the full-on parent clean (or let us do it for you) and let the lack of comment serve as its own compliment!

It’s also a great time to pick up a little something for them from one of our many local businesses and leave it on the porch. While some of our traditions may be on a bit of a “vacation” this year, it’s the memories that truly make the holidays special. Let’s use our creativity to come up with new and beautiful ways to bring warmth and happiness to the season and to show our loved ones how much we care. We are sending love to you all!
