5 Five-Minute Tidies!

As a busy individual who’s always on the go, sometimes it feels like there just isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done.
Chores, in particular, can be a real drag and often fall to the bottom of the to-do list.
But what if we told you that you could tackle some of the most dreaded cleaning tasks in just five minutes? It might sound a little questionable, and maybe you’re a little doubtful, but these five-minute cleaning strategies will actually have your home looking tidy and sparkly in no time.
The Ice-Cube Trick
If you have a garbage disposal, chances are you’ve faced the grim task of trying to clean the stinky, hard-to-reach areas of the disposal unit.
But don’t worry – this can be done in less than five minutes!
Simply drop a handful of ice cubes into the disposal and turn it on. The ice cubes act as an abrasive, scraping off any leftover food and grime on the blades and walls of the unit. Plus, the running water will help carry the debris down and out of your drains.
The 5-Minute Living Room Sweep
Do you remember the 10-second tidy from the kids show ‘The Big Comfy Couch’? Well, this is like that… but with a little more wiggle room!
Your living room is likely one of the most high-traffic areas in your home, but it’s also one of the easiest places to accumulate clutter.
To give your living room a quick refresh, set a timer for five minutes and grab a basket. Walk through the room, picking up any items that don’t belong (think shoes, toys, or stray papers) and toss them into the basket. Once the timer goes off, put the basket away and admire your tidy space.
Speedy Shower Refresh
Cleaning your shower is never a fun task, but it’s one that can quickly get out of hand if you let it go too long. Scum, calcium build-up, water rings… your shower can start looking grimy pretty quickly if left unattended!
Luckily, upkeep can be done in a jiffy with a daily shower spray.
A quick and effective DIY recipe that is safe for fiberglass, acrylic, ceramic or porcelain tile, vinyl, and glass surfaces is:
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 5 drops essential oils (optional)
Keep a bottle of this solution in your bathroom and give your shower walls a quick spritz after each use. This helps prevent soap scum and buildup, saving you lots of cleaning time in the long run.
Microwave Miracle
Have you ever opened your microwave only to be greeted with a splattered, crusty mess inside?
Instead of reaching for the heavy-duty cleaning supplies, try this five-minute hack.
Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and add a splash of vinegar or lemon juice. Heat the bowl in the microwave for about three minutes, then let it sit for an additional two minutes. The steam from the hot water will loosen any grime, making it easy to wipe down with a damp cloth.
Less work, less frustration, better smell? Yes please!
Speed Clean Your Stove
Cleaning your stove top can be a frustrating task with all those stuck-on bits and pieces; but fear not, it doesn’t have to be!
To give your stove a quick refresh, grab a damp kitchen towel and sprinkle it with baking soda. Rub the mixture onto your stovetop, focusing on any discolored or caked-on areas. You can leave it there for 5-10 minutes to really let the baking soda do its work. Then, simply wipe away the baking soda with another damp cloth.
Voila – your stovetop will be looking shiny and new in just five minutes.
