A Simple Guide to Preparing for your Clean Team’s Arrival

There’s something just intrinsically very ‘feel good’ about coming back to a clean home after a long day at work, wrangling kids for activities, or even after returning from a summer vacation! 

Hiring a professional cleaner is a phenomenal way to take some of the stress out of your life and elevate your ability to spend more time doing the things you love. 

While people enjoy what a cleaning service can provide them, one of the most frequent questions we’re asked is this: how do I prepare for my clean team’s arrival?

To get the most out of your home cleaning service, there’s a handful of things that you can do to make the experience as seamless as possible.

Be Specific With Your Product Preferences

Depending on your preferences, your clean team will either bring their own cleaning products or will use ones that are provided by you. 

Make sure that you communicate with your cleaner beforehand if you have any allergies or preferences when it comes to the detergents, sprays, and agents being used. 

If you would like specific cleaning products to be utilized, have them organized and available in a place that is easy for your clean team to access. Having a single location is preferred, as this ensures that your cleaners don’t have to spend time moving around to different areas of your home to find certain products.

Communicate Any Tasks You’d Like Prioritized

During your initial booking, your clean team will contact you to discuss your home and the number of expected hours it will take to get the job done to your specifications. They’ll also discuss with you your goals, the areas you want them to focus on the most, and which tasks should be prioritized first.  

However, priorities change during the year and that’s completely okay! 

Just make sure that you’re touching base with your cleaner, either in person, via phone call/text, or even through a note left in an obvious place on the day of your cleaning. Communicating your wants and needs is the best way for you to get the experience you’re looking for!

Clear the Floors and Tidy Up Counter Space

Your clean team will spend their hours making your home dazzle! 

But what can sometimes get in the way of that superior deep-clean is if they’re having to spend a lot of time picking up items off the floor or trying to maneuver around cluttered counter space. 

Toys, clothing, plates, cosmetics, cups, that pile of takeout menus that’s been accumulating… they all add up! 

Remember: to clean under it, your cleaner will have to move it. And if they’re spending lots of time moving dozens of items up and off your floor and counters, that’s less time that they have to spend on bigger or more important tasks. 

Before your professional cleaner arrives, try your best to put away any stray items that are on any surface you would like cleaned. 

Don’t Forget to Provide Your Home Security Details 

If you’re going to be home during the clean team’s visit, that’s fantastic! 

However, if you’re planning to head out during that time block, don’t forget to give them all the details they need to enter and exit your home quickly and safely. 

If your clean team will require a key to get in, make sure that you’ve notified the company where you’ll be leaving it before the day of your scheduled cleaning. 

In addition, if you have a security system that will be active at that time, make sure you provide detailed disarming and arming information well in advance. This includes where the code console is in your home, what the appropriate codes are, and instructions on whether to arm ‘stay’ or ‘away’ mode on their way out.

Inform Your Clean Team About Your Pet Situation 

We looooove animals. However, we understand that having a stranger enter your home can stress out your fur baby and we don’t want to cause any undue anxiety. 

If your pet is comfortable around strangers, and your cleaner is comfortable around pets, then they’ll likely be able to freely roam around the house. 

However, if you know your pet doesn’t like strangers, or even if you’re unsure, it’s best to have them crated, tucked away into a safe area (such as a mudroom), or left with a friend or relative during cleaning time. The same goes for if your lovely critter suffers from anxiety around certain noises (like the ones caused by a vacuum cleaner). 

This ensures that everybody feels and stays safe and that the experience is as calm as it should be.
